The School took a new turn in 1962 when His Beatitude Ignatius IV, then Bishop Hazim, came to Balamand as a rector of the Monastery and introduced a program of secondary education for all at Balamand. In 1970, Bishop Hazim seperated the Monastery from the theological school and moved at to an adjacent building. The school began to receive students from all the surrounding areas. A relatively stable and safe school environment at Balamand drew increasing number of students from Tripoli, Beirut, and Mount Lebanon during the years of hostilities in Lebanon, and the student body grew from 90 students in 1974 to 1850 in 1999.
